Anime Review: Bakemonogatari

Gosh, it's been a long time... I've never done any actual reviewing.. Well, I remember watching bakemonogatari and not making a review for it, So I might as well do a review for that since it's a damn good anime to watch.

Summary:

Although there are still traces of the brief period he became a vampire, third year high school student Koyomi Araragi is human again. He happens upon others with their own supernatural problems and finds that he can empathize. Koyomi becomes involved in their lives, seeking to help them and occasionally asking for advice from Meme Oshino, the homeless man who helped him become human again.

Comments And Thoughts About It   

So.... Where should I start with this... Probably the apparent art style of the anime, remember how Baka Test and MSMM had those unreal colors for their shades? and remember how MSMM had those paper cut out styles? Well, in this anime you can see the resemblances from like a mile away. I'm not saying its a bad thing but I kinda wanted to just point it out ( IKR, stupidity at best)

Oh, yeah the genre's probably I'll say this is not the best ROMANCE anime but they done well in terms of making "ROMANCE" since that's part of the genre. But, we should probably rule out the slice of life part since it doesn't portray real life stuff, aside from it being a Harem its not the same as other generic Harem anime's, like that anime Hoshizora, that was a Harem anime but literally Bakemonogatari has differed in terms of being a Harem.

Also I would like to point out that sometimes when the characters are having a conversation, please make the background music RIGHT. I couldn't guess what the tone was, were they having a funny conversation? were they having a serious conversation? most of the early episode always did this, they were having a conversation that was quite funny then the background music sets a deep tone that would portray seriousness then all of a sudden the character pulls out a joke.... Way to go for setting a tone man. But this is just a minor thing. Also it took them how many episodes to introduce those characters?!... But that's fine another minor thing.

But hey, this anime is not going out of here without a recommendation, I mean as a supernatural, action, comedy, mystery part that they should do? they've done it really really well, I mean the fighting scenes are awesome but not as much as you would expect from a summary that has the word "vampire, supernatural" in it.

To be honest, I don't really know what sucked me in from this anime, maybe its the fact that there are actually ecchi-full scenes in here and I didn't see a generic main character response for example: having nosebleeds. It's cool to see that this anime didn't take the routes that are very generic and predictable, you know being generic makes your anime as much as predictable as a ball rolling in the slide... IT GOES DOWN. Oh remember when anime's that are Harem-tastic always had the main character (the dude) do things to the girls.. No like each and everyone of them the dude has done something either romantic or ecchi--full. But again this anime doesn't take the generic Harem route, Araragi just saves them from the spirits that they have, no romantic stuff happened PERIOD.

Oh and by the way, they referenced a meme here and a bunch of other things, try guessing them.

The Legendary Nitpicking Division

1.Like what I said earlier BACKGROUND MUSIC
- to set a tone in a conversation between the main characters are important, don't just flip a coin...

2.The TEXT when the anime starts
- They are too fast to be read, some of them are probably not important but some may. If the watchers doesn't know something important its their fault that they just put TEXT that are too fast to be read in the start of the show.

Another Round Of Thoughts (ONLY SPECIFIC THIS TIME)

1.Story - So the story is about Araragi finding a bunch of girls who has bad spirits in them that cause them harm to themselves and to others now as Araragi found every single girl he tries to help them with the help of Oshino Meme (HE IS NOT MOE)... Ah, basically I just simplified the story a little bit. that story is enough to keep you invested probably on watching the show as to how it would unfold and don't be discouraged about the story if you want to watch it or not because of my dumb summary. But the story is fine, I tell you its ENOUGH to keep you watching the anime even if its for the story.

2.Artwork - Seriously different from the usual cutesy type of art styles for characters. They have detailed noses, the eyes are much detailed... Oh and by the way cool gore and violence at some part of the show. But still its not as realistic as those early anime's like those guys with seriously realistic proportioned faces and the shadings make them look more manlier.. GAR man... GAR.. Also don't forget about those doraemon style artworks that they do.. Defintely... I dunno what to say about them, it probably just adds more expression to the characters.

3.OP and ED - Okay there are a bunch of OP's and ED's... So let me just sum them up. The OP's shows the characters that are coming up next, that's kinda cool, the Op's are still cool even though they change, most of them are good and the only ED.. Is by far the only ED I saw that looks particularly like Panty and Stocking but don't get me wrong its a good ED

4.Fanservice - (Please, when I don't judge how good an anime is just because of fanservice, I only say how MUCH is the fanservice in here to warn the watchers not to measure how good the anime is based on fanservice, so stop emailing me about as to why I talk about fanservice everytime in a review) Anyway the fanservice in this anime is probably the usual although some are really... How should I put it.. The one with Sengoku was like the same rate of moe-ness as that of Touwa Erio but again the fanservice in this anime is not so much and not so little, still fanservice though so if you dig an anime without so much of it then this anime is still fine.

5.Comedy in it - Well, some of the jokes are slapstick some are through words and some are culture based and some are strictly will be understood by people who know how to write in japanese (Hirigana, Katakana, Kanji) but hey, even though they have those kinds of jokes that are strictly for those who know it, they still have the other jokes to keep it alive, which is sometimes laughable, sometimes makes you smile but not the kind of jokes where you are going to be sitting down in the middle of the day and when you remember it, it would make you laugh like an idiot.

6.Action in it - THUMBS UP on the action kid, if you're digging action this is probably a good anime to dig in, but if you're the kind of viewer who gets mad if something doesn't happen within a minute or two, kindly please get the hell out of here.

7.Romance in it - Okay... Romance?... What romance? oh SenjouRagi? well this anime didn't really showed the kind of generic romance you would expect in a romance genre, more like it was just shown that they had something (I don't want to spoil) and boom that's it and then back to saving those girls with bad spirits. But there is one part of this anime where it was about the two indeed, better savour that episode if you dig romance.

8.Entertainment rate - It's an anime that is never the tedious and boring type one where the conversations just go on and on, they always crack in a few jokes every few minutes or so and when the action comes in its gonna be good. Also who doesn't get bored when there are always flashing images that you might as well keep up with when you're watching Bakemonogatari. So for short, its entertaining as hell.

Pass, Average, Fail

Definitely one good anime, I can't even believe that a few people only saw this. But I suppose to the people who saw this they would agree to me that the first time they saw the weirdness and the uncanny images, that was the point that they probably got sucked in the anime (probably just me) this anime is definitely the one of those anime's that you shouldn't be missing if you're getting into the idea of being an otaku. So basically, I say that this anime is a PASS!

4.People who would like a GUY main character that is not being battered by generic anime girls (especially in harems)
